Bathroom Break

Shawn struggles with going to the bathroom when he needs to. Just wants to play and play without breaks. And if he does have little accidents of not making it on time, it's usually when he wants "some privacy" so we can't see that his underwear is a little wet. Well today, I could tell he really needed to go, if he hadn't already started going, so I said, "Shawn, do you need to go potty?"

He said, "No." With the look of total discomfort that he was holding it in.

"Did you already start to go?" I ask somewhat sternly.

"No!" he says, looking down as if to check if I could tell.

"Why don't you go and then we can turn the movie on."

"Oh fine," like he's just being obedient and doesn't really need to go.

Then he starts walking with his legs tightly together like it will come out if he doesn't. And to cover it up he says, "I just want to walk like a penguin." And he continues "walking like a penguin" all the way to the bathroom.

I'm not sure why he would rather hold it until he's in what I can only imagine is pain and discomfort, then take 5 seconds to let it out. Silly guy!

Costume

This morning out of the blue Shawn said with a big sigh, "I really want it to be Costume Day!"

It took me a second but I put it all together... Yesterday Christian brought him home some camoflauge-colored crocs and Shawn said he could wear them with his Peter Pan outfit - I guess it's the green. So I'm thinking he wants it to be Halloween, or "costume day" so he can wear it.

haha

Funny word

We had Cade, a little friend over. We were eating lunch and Shawn had gas...and let it out.
Cade started laughing and said, "you tooted!"
Then Shawn started laughing and said, "I tooted! haha! Toot is a funny pop word!"

(As if "pop" is not a funny toot word! haha)

Scripture Study

We finished our morning scripture reading at breakfast... it was about the Anti-Nephi-Lehis moving into the land of Jershon (pronounced Jer-Shawn by me) which was said quite a few times.

Kayla looked at me and said, "Mommy is their a land called Jer-Kayla?"

Enough!

After dropping Kayla off at preschool Shawn and Tyler and I headed to CVS for some diapers. In the car I had the primary CD playing and "Follow the Prophet" was on. I think it was after the 4th verse Shawn finally said, "Mommy, I'm getting sick-a this!" I started laughing!

It is a long song that starts getting a little repititious, but I never new he'd actually get "sick-a" it! ha

The morning after getting a haircut Shawn says while rubbing his head,

"I still have my haircut on!"

Heaven

I've talked to the kids about not letting Tyler put little things in his mouth and being careful about leaving things on the floor because he could get something stuck in his throat and possibly choke.

Yesterday was the first time he stuck something in his mouth, a little elastic hairtie. I sat sticking my little finger in his mouth trying to reach the thing that I could see but could quite get to come out. The whole time Kayla was going in the back room saying, "I can't watch!" and Shawn would run after her saying the same thing.

Finally, when I knew he had actually swallowed it, I gave up. Kayla came back and said, "Is Tyler going to go to heaven now?"

Birthday Party

Kayla: Mom, do you know that clouds are blue? (while coloring a rainbow with clouds underneath)

Me: Oh, really?

K: No, that's not my question! I said, do you know that clouds are blue!

Me: (trying to get it right this time) No, I didn't know that.

K: (Shocked!) You didn't!? I know that clouds are blue. Shawn knows that clouds are blue too. You can only come to my birthday party if you know that clouds are blue, so you can't come to my birthday party.

I wonder who's throwing her this birthday party... and if she'll remember in December that I'm not invited to it.

There should be a book made of a child's way of saying things, and then the reader tries to guess what is really being said. Here's what one of the pages would say:

"We can't find any stickers to put on Kayla's antelope!" (Shawn's words)

Can you guess what is being said?

...............

Let's see if you were right:

We can't find any stamps to put on Kayla's envelope!

ha

Maybe I'll be the one to write the book. Just for me.

Naptime

As I put Shawn in his bed, or crib, I say, "Goodnight, love you."

He says, "Goodnight mama. Don't be a stranger!"

Luxurious Dino

I'm sittibg with Tyler on Shawn's floor helping Shawn get dressed. Tyler starts to reach for one of Shawn's dinosaurs and Shawn pulls it away and says,

"No, Tyler. You can't play with that. It's too... spensive!"

I'm not quite sure where he's heard that, especially considering not many of our things are "too expensive" (ha), I think I've said the word a few times. But it was funny to hear him use it.

Prayer

While Tyler is crying trying after I've put him down for a nap

Kayla: Maybe we should say a prayer to help Tyler calm down.

Me: That sounds like a good idea

Kayla: I'll say it. Heavenly Father, thank thee for this day. Please bless that Tyler will calm down. That he can learn how to be a nice boy, and say these things, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Sweet girl.

Gorgeous

Kayla during "naptime"

"Mom, can you take off my bracelet?" (referring to her necklace)

"Why?" I ask as I start taking it off.

"Because I don't want to be gorgeous anymore."

Ok sweetheart. But you're still gorgeous! =)

Preschool Jargon

Kayla coming home from preschool telling me about a science experiment:

K very excitedly: "We had water and cinnamon powder and soap and different juice and mixed it together and it sploated like a flamango!"

We've been reading a book where it says "a flamingo fluting in my ear" so I'm thinking this is what she is saying maybe. But what does a flamingo have to do with mixing things together?

Then I realize... it EXPLODED like a VOLCANO!

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

We were in Kayla's room. Me helping Kayla get dressed, Shawn bouncing on her bed and being crazy and silly.

Kayla looks at me smiling and half laughing and says, "He is de-licorice!"

"What?" I ask.

"He is being he-dickorish!" still smiling and laughing.

I finally get it and laugh and say, "yeah he is."

I think she means he's being ridiculous! haha
